(English version bellow)
Luni, 5 septembrie 2011, ora 19.00, Atelier 35 va invita la deschiderea expozitiei Silviei Traistaru, intitulata The Last Communits´Convention.
In 2004 am inceput acest proiect cercetand fenomenul comunismului.

Instalatia The Last Communists´ Conventioninclude 24 de tripticuri dimensiunea 40×80 cm, concepute intr-un stil pop, reprezentand portrete ale liderilor comunisti: Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Leon Trotsky, Ho Chi Minh, Josip Broz Tito, Mao Zedong, Nikita Khrushchev, Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej, Deng Xiaoping, Wladyslaw Gomulka, Leonid Brezhnev, Salvador Allende, Enver Hoxha, Todor Zhivkov, Kim Ilsung, Janos Kadar, Erich Honecker, Nicolae Ceausescu, Alexander Dubcek, Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, Hugo Chavez.
Acest proiect a fost expus partial in 2005 in Mainz, Germania, iar in 2010 expus in totalitate la Nord Art, Germania (curator Wolfgang Gramm).

More than 20 years after the fall of the Communism, most communist leaders are still present in the collective memory of the people. In 2004 I started this project by researching the communist phenomenon.

The instalation “The Last Communists´Convention” includes 24thtrypthics, 40×80 cm in size, painted in a pop style, representing portrets of the communist leaders: Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Leon Trotsky, Ho Chi Minh, Josip Broz Tito, Mao Zedong, Nikita Khrushchev, Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej, Deng Xiaoping, Władysław Gomułka, Leonid Brezhnev, Salvador Allende, Enver Hoxha, Todor Zhivkov, Kim Ilsung, János Kádár, Erich Honecker, Nicolae Ceauşescu, Alexander Dubček, Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, Hugo Chávez. Presentation of the installation in the exhibition will be done gradually, by the birthyear of the subject’s character. The title of this project refers to an imaginary meeting of all communist leaders, regardless of the era in which they lived. This project has been partially exhibited in 2005 in Mainz, Germany and totally exhibited in 2010 at Nord Art, also in Germany.

Silvia Traistaru (1979) lives and works in Bucharest, as a visual artist and independent art restorer. Her art extends to photography and video, but a very special part of her practice remains drawing and painting. An important theme of her approach is the portrait capturing the reality in the post communist Romania. Cultural, political social and economic pretexts are the central subjects of her works, revealing gaps in the system to which she belongs. Her work questions the role that social memory plays in everyday life. She uses a visual approach that focuses on individual identity through both personal and collective history and thus her works enables the viewer to analyze the role of social memory in Romania’s everyday life.

In 2010, the painting „My Mom at a Funeral” was selected as finalist and winner of a special prize for the 4th International Arte Laguna Prize, Venice Arsenale (curated by Igor Zanti); in 2010 she has participated at Nord Art, Germany (curated by Wolfgang Gramm); in 2009 The Artist’s Magazine has selected one of her works as finalist for its 26th Annual Art Competition; in 2009, she participated at the Experimental course of contemporary art and exhibition ”Mobilehome´´, Portugal (curated by Nuno Faria).

I had my 15 seconds of celebrity. My name was screened for 15 glittering seconds today at 2:19:40 PM CET on John Baldessari´s installation “Your Name in Lights”

The Holland Festival and the Stedelijk Museum jointly present the interactive artwork Your Name in Lights by John Baldessari, one of America’s best-known Conceptual artists. This extraordinary artwork was installed on Museumplein from June …1 to 26, 2011. Your Name in Lights draws on our society’s obsession with celebrity and recalls Andy Warhol’s oft-quoted statement from 1968, “In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.” Inspired by historic markers of show-biz celebrity, such as the neon lights on Broadway and the marquees of Hollywood cinemas, Baldessari offers spectators a chance to seize 15 seconds of fame by presenting their names on a 30-metre L.E.D. screen. Your Name in Lights premiered as the 23rd Kaldor Public Art Project, in collaboration with the 2011 Sydney Festival; its appearance in Amsterdam is the second and only other planned presentation of the work.

In cadrul atelierului deschis a fost prezentat proiectul Social system data recovery“, autori: Sorin Dan Cojocaru si Silvia Traistaru.

Arte Laguna Art Prize is an important international competition, in its 4th edition, that is slightly changing the approach towards the contemporary art, giving an original look on the works of the young artists, the “generation” of tomorrow.

PRIZES: 50.000 EURO

EXHIBITION: ARSENALE – VENICE
SECTIONS: PAINTING – SCULPTURE – PHOTOGRAPHY

Authentically Venetian but with an international impact, this Art Prize is open to all artists, without any limits of age, gender, nationality or other qualification. Its importance is above all the concrete Prize’s range: the possibility to gain not only a monetary acknowledgment (5,000 euro for each section) but the unique opportunity to be exhibited in the Venice Arsenale and to be selected for the personal exhibitions in a circuit of national and international Art Galleries involved in this competition.

The prestigious Jury

Arte Laguna Art Prize has three sections as in the previous editions: Painting, Sculpture and Photographic Art, each of which is presided from a quoted Italian critic and curator. This year Igor Zanti for Sculpture, Viviana Siviero for Painting and Alessandro Trabucco for Photography, supported by: – Stefano Coletto (curator of the Fondazione Bevilaqua La Masa of Venezia), -   Lorenzo Respi (curator of the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro of Milano), – Rossella Bertolazzi (director of the European Institute of Design). This Jury will select the 90 finalists for the exhibition in the Venice Arsenale.

The main exhibition

The Arte Laguna Art Prize organises the final exhibition in the Arsenale of Venice, from the 6th to the 27th of March 2010. This exclusive site, that usually is open only for the Biennale, in this case will exhibit the 90 finalists of the Prize, 30 for each section. This will be the first of further exhibitions in several art galleries in Italy and abroad.

Arte Laguna

The primary aim of the ARTE LAGUNA PRIZE is to facilitate the meeting between emerging artists and established artists, a stimulating comparison between styles and techniques at the international level.

To achieve this aim, it relies on widespread dissemination of the notice at the international level and on establishing cooperative relations with foreign cultural institutes based in Italy and Italian Cultural Institutes abroad.

Another aim , pursued with equal commitment, is to promote talented artists, giving them the opportunity to exhibit their works in exhibitions of recognized quality, as well as to receive the deserved attention by the media specialist.

To this end, in the Arte Laguna has established fruitful relationships with a few galleries of high quality that have offered their premises to exhibit the art works of artists who considered themselves the most deserving and in line with the its corporate strategy.

Moreover, the enormous difficulties encountered by emerging artists in getting visibility on the media specialist, Laguna Art is committed to overcoming one of the major limitations of the competitions of art: that of being essentially an end in itself and incapable of actually helping the artists to make the leap in quality. Therefore, the organization is engaged in establishing partnerships with major media media specialist who will undertake to give visibility to artists winners and other worthy, through the media that belongs to it (editorial, interviews, virtual galleries, etc..).

The  selected work:

The painting “My mom at a funeral” is part of a larger ongoing project, consisting of hyperrealist portraits, called “Hello strangers”. The idea behind the project is to develop self-awareness and a better understanding of the people with whom you come in contact throughout your life. The project is about the persons who, in one way or another, influenced my life. Every one of us creates his/her own experience of reality through believe, interpretation, action and reaction, thoughts and feelings. The portraits represent the reflection of emotions or moments that went on in my life and which unquestionably influenced me. “My mom at a funeral” represents one of these moments, captured while she was attending her mother’s funeral.
