Inspired by the film “Marilena from P7″ directed by Cristian Nemescu (his last movie was awarded with the Un Certain Regard prize at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival), the idea of the project was to explore the social aspects of prostitution in Romania as part of living conditions in low-income. My approach is to capture the diversity of the everyday life in post-communist Romania by revealing the failures of the current social system. I´m using deliberately a narrative based on a sequential visual investigation where the identity of the individuals are being revealed. Thus, the interaction between personal and collective history allows the viewer to reflect on the social situation in Romania nowadays in a more intimate way. Similary to the cinematic technique used by Nemescu, my project focuses on the realism of the situation, with the aim of reproducing the same feelings conveyed in the film.
